Abstract
Culture plays a pivotal role in second language education. However, recent years have witnessed heightened attention towards its significance in this context. The nexus between language and culture emerged as a focal point in applied linguistics during the 1990s, spurred by the identity politics of the era and advancements in second language education research. This article delves into the significance of language teaching materials, the influence of culture on their development, and the challenges associated with integrating cultural aspects into these materials. It asserts that culture can profoundly impact how learners comprehend, communicate, and utilize language, thus emphasizing the value of teaching materials incorporating cultural elements for fostering a deeper understanding of language within its cultural milieu. Furthermore, the article contends that challenges in incorporating culture into second language education predominantly revolve around issues of meaning and intercultural disparities. Consequently, fostering awareness among language teachers regarding educational materials encompassing the target culture can significantly enhance the appeal and efficacy of educational resources.
