Social media, by providing dynamic tools and platforms, has transformed the landscape of education, enabling learning, interaction, and collaboration. On the other hand, motivation plays a central role in the second language learning process, serving as a driving force for learners' efforts to master a new language. This paper examines the role of social media in enhancing motivation for second language learning among English language learners as a foreign language. The present study explores the importance of motivation in second language acquisition, the role of social media in modern education and language learning, the benefits of social media for language learners, and the challenges and limitations involved. Additionally, key studies on social media and second language learning motivation are reviewed. Recent research emphasizes the role of social media in boosting motivation among second language learners by creating engaging and interactive environments. It has also been shown that social media platforms assist in the development of specific language skills. Ultimately, social media has been found to support both independent and collaborative learning, giving learners more control over their educational experiences. Social media has emerged as a transformative tool for enhancing motivation in second language learning among learners, promoting authentic language use, collaboration, and self-confidence. However, challenges such as access inequality, privacy concerns, and distractions require attention. Educators should integrate structured activities and platform-specific features into their teaching strategies while emphasizing inclusion and equity. Future research should explore the long-term impacts, emerging technologies, and innovative applications to optimize the role of social media in language education.
