This review article examines the intersection of language and artificial intelligence in military operations, focusing on the capabilities and implications of natural language processing (NLP) and its applications. ​AI-driven language technologies have the potential to revolutionize military communications by automating data analysis, improving decision-making, and enhancing training processes.​ As military forces increasingly adopt these technologies, they encounter several benefits, such as faster information distribution and personalized learning experiences which can adapt to needs of individual service members. However, the adoption of AI in military settings also raises critical ethical concerns, including issues of accountability, bias in decision-making, and the gradual loss of human oversight in interactions driven by AI systems. The military must navigate these complexities and develop robust frameworks to ensure that AI technologies are used responsibly, reflecting ethical standards that align with the values of accountability, transparency, and collaboration. This review article synthesizes the current literature and findings related to AI language technologies, offering insights into their potential applications and ethical implications in military contexts.
